One of the oldest and most beautiful churches of Limnos is the Cemetery church of Christ Genesis of 1830 in Romanou village in the eastern part of the island. The three-aisled basilica was built according to the local architectural style, with the donation of a wealthy Lemnian, and was adorned with Gothic style openings in the Exo-narthex, “pear-shaped” ornamental elements and carved capitals, and is dedicated to the Birth of Christ.
The iconography of the temple by the great hagiographer Efstratios Imvrios (Haimandes) is praiseworthy. The whole church interior, as well as the icons on the wooden iconostasis, depict themes from the Bible. The hagiographies of Adam and Eve, the Flood, the Trumpets of Jericho, the Tower of Babel, Cain and Abel, have an exceptional technique and unique spiritual power.
