Christmas in Limnos
On Christmas and New Year's Eve the children are knocking at the doors of the houses to say carols, holding a paper boat. The housewives are offering treats, such as cookies, chestnuts and walnuts.
In Plati, fathers step on a pomegranate at their doorsteps, for luck. On the same day, in Kontias the whole family will step on the “sideriko”,which is an iron object placed under the front-door mat, so that the whole family would have health as strong as "iron" during the upcoming year.
Theophania
Almost in all villages on the island, the night before Theophania, the villagers are strolling around the village saying the local carols. The landlords are offering them lemnian treats.
Easter in Limnos
Easter in Limnos definitely means red eggs and «lamprokouloures». It means the Crist’s pie at the church of Kondias in Good Friday evenings. It also means the pilgrimage in many churches for the best decorated Epitaph.
If you are invited to a lemnian house at easter or the day after, you will taste the traditional lamb or stuffed kid with liver, rice, raisins and almonds baked in the oven.
On Tuesday after Easter, go uphill to the Church of Panagia Kakaviotissa, a few kilometers from Myrina, who has a feast that day.
