It was the summer of 1956,while the excavations in Poliochni were in progress, and the Italian head of the excavations, Bernabo Brea, asked the local laborers to clean the already excavated area.

One worker, Nicholas Zonaras, in his attempt to uproot a bush, hit and broke with his pickaxe a small clay vessel that was hidden in the floor of room Nr 643. Inside the broken vessel there was a golden treasure. Earrings, bracelets and necklaces, an impressive pin, all of exceptional technique. The treasure resembles the one of Priamos, which Erick Schliemann found at Troy. Today, they are presented in the Archaeological Museum of Athens.
